The Suits Just Keep On Coming: Viacom
While American soft drink companies try to stave off a lawsuit about advertising to children, and EU soft drink manufacturers agree to a law that bans the same practice, Kellogg and Nickelodeon’s parent company Viacom will soon find itself in a Massachusetts court to defend questionable ads.
The suit is being brought in part by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, which is also managing the attack on U.S. soft drink companies.
Why the flurry of litigation? A recent study by the Institute of Medicine showed that marketing unhealthy foods to kids has an adverse effect on their long-term health. Expect more lawsuits soon.
